Bedford Girls’ School is a vibrant day school for girls aged 7-18 with a rich and diverse co-curricular programme. An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our successful Classics Department has arisen.
The successful candidate must be able to teach Latin from Year 6 to 13, including GCSE, IB and A Level and to Oxbridge level, as well as Classical Civilisation A Level and should have a deep love of literature. The ability to teach Greek to Year 7s as part of the curriculum and to older students in a club would be desirable, with students going on to take GCSE Greek on an occasional basis.
The Classics department teaches Latin to younger years using the Suburani Latin course. Students gain excellent results and there are regularly students who go on to study Classics at university, including an impressive record of Oxbridge Classics students.
The role also offers the opportunity to support and lead overseas trips to Rome and the Bay of Naples, as well as trips to Bath, the British Museum, Verulamium and the Ashmolean Museum and to run theatre trips to see classical plays, including the Cambridge Greek play.
We encourage students to think for themselves, to love ancient literature, to develop a curiosity about ancient history and culture and to be fascinated by the influence of the classical world on modern society.
